Happy living Inspired working

Time is your most valuable asset.

“Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.”

We live in such a fast-paced world and our time is so limited. How do you find the right mix of personal/professional activities and alone/social time that will help you get the most out of your life and lead to long-term contentment? Sometimes it’s important to step back and see if we’re using it in the wisest way that we can.

This does not mean that you are not allowed to have your occasional Netflix binge or 12-hour work days. However, set a maximum number of collective hours you spend on being a sloth or workaholic per month. Think about what you’ll be most happy about having spent your time doing today when you’re 65.

Depending on your career and personal goals, there are certain things that you will want to invest your time in. Focus your efforts by asking yourself the following questions:

  • Why am I spending your time on a specific activity?
  • What will give me the highest value (personally and/or professionally) in the long run?
  • Is there a more efficient/faster way to do this?
  • Can I integrate it with another activity?
  • Is this moving me forward or challenging me to personally/professionally develop myself?
  • If I cut this activity out, will I be able to better focus on another area
  • Are there relationships you can strengthen by cutting out a commitment?
  • Is this adding unnecessary stress to my life?

Fact: Not every commitment and/or relationships in your life right now is a priority. There are a few things that you will need to put on the backburner to avoid burning out. Asking yourself the above questions and understanding your values will help you figure out what is and isn’t worth your time. After all, your time is so limited and you will never get it back.
